According to the WHO, older adults and persons with pre-existing medical conditions or compromised immune systems are at a higher risk for severe illness from the virus.

Joining co-hosts Dennis McCuistion and Jim Falk in a 3-part segment on Covid-19’s most at risk population are:
Dennis McCuistion with Olivia Rogers

Clip 1 – Olivia Rogers: Vice President and Chief Nursing Officer, Visiting Nurse Association N. Texas

Clip 2 – Anurag Jain: Chairman, North Texas Food Bank

Clip 3 – Dr. John Carlo: Physician CEO, Prism Health North Texas and Raymond Castilleja, Jr., LCSW, MBA, Director of Behavioral Health Prism Health North Texas.

In clip 1, Dennis McCuistion interviews Ms. Rogers and talks about the work of Visiting Nurse Association with the elderly population which has been confined and are very isolated during COVID. Often the meals that VNA provides are the only meals this population has.
Anurag Jain

In clip 2, Jim Falk interviews Anurag Jain, about the numbers of people who now rely on food packages distributed by the North Texas Food Bank. With unemployment rates up, the only food a family may now have is what they receive from food banks.

Especially troubling is the household food insecurity rate in Texas, which at 18.4% is significantly higher than the national average.
  • Over 27% of children under 18 in Dallas live in households that have experienced food insecurity in the past year. With schools not in session more children are going hungry.
  • Dallas County ranks 5.9 out of 10 on the Food Environment Index (FEI).
Jim Falk with Raymond Castilleja, Jr and Dr. John Carlo

In clip 3, Jim Falk interviews Dr. John Carlo and Raymond Castilleja, Jr, about one of the countries most vulnerable populations, people of all ages who have HIV/ AIDS; from food issues to getting timely health treatment they are even more vulnerable than usual.

Often this population has been marginalized by their family. Now with COVID they are even more isolated and may have been the first to be furloughed from their jobs.
