McCuistion TV - Reshaping Our Future: Part One (2805)Re-Air: Reshaping our Future: Part One (2805)

Join host Jim Falk, and guest:

Jeremi Suri, Ph.D., Professor, Department of History, the University of Texas at Austin and author of Civil War by Other Means: America’s Long and Unfinished Fight for Democracy.

Professor Suri takes a look at some of America’s first issues regarding democracy during the civil war, which laid the foundation for some of the challenges we are experiencing today.

According to various polls, democracy is one of the most important issues facing the American electorate; ranking higher than inflation issues and the job market.

Democracy may be the bedrock of the American experiment, but will it survive given the continued assaults on democracy?

Dr. Suri defines democracy as:

  • Participation in self-government,
  • An opportunity for people to change their lives for the better with some hope for the future,
  • Prosperity and the pursuit of happiness.
