Most observers now agree that our immigration system is broken and badly in need of reform, something that has not occurred in over three decades.

The discord surrounding this issue is not limited to the United States as migration ranks high as a hot-button issue in Europe where political parties have effectively used it to win support.

What motivates a migrant to risk his or her life or that of their family to leave their country for an unknown destination.? As opposition grows to undocumented migration, what options do governments have to address this issue?

Joining Host Jim Falk are key experts on this issue:
Dr. Jim Hollifield is the Ora Nixon Arnold Professor of International Political Economy and Director of the John Goodwin Tower Center for Political Studies at Southern Methodist University. He’s the author of numerous books and articles on migration.
David Bier is the Cato Institute’s Associate Director of Immigration Studies, He’s the author of the recent CATO report, US Immigration Policy Lags Behind a Globalizing World.

Policymakers and economic experts are increasingly questioning the benefits that free trade and global migration has brought us. More and more Americans are concerned about immigration and believe we should shut down our borders.

We’ll discuss some of these issues.
